Walton, Eugene O

Page history last edited by Alan Unsworth 13 years, 10 months ago

Life:

1928 - May 28, 2010

Served:

1980 - 2010

Group:

Restored Church of Jesus Christ

About:

  • Former member of the RLDS Church, dissented over growing liberalism in the church.
  • Worked with Barney Fuller in 1973-74 in setting up a RLDS "fundamental" group that held services, but did not accept tithing or contributions.
  • Eventually joined with the Church of Jesus Christ (Cutler), but left that group and formed the Restored Church of Jesus Christ around 1980.
  • Served six months in jail because of unpaid alimony to an ex-wife. Walton insisted "that God had instructed him to spend full time preaching and, therefore, he couldn't earn the money necessary to meet the alimony obligation" (Russell, p. 18).
  • Walton claimed to be the One Mighty and Strong.
