About:

  • Church history
  • Accept Joseph Smith, Jr. as a prophet, but assert that he was a fallen prophet, through the introduction of doctrines such as plural marriage and baptism for the dead. Revelations received by Smith after the publication of the 1833 Book of Commandments are not accepted.
  • Reject many hierarchical offices introduced by Joseph Smith, Jr. (first presidency, high priest, etc.).
  • There is some evidence to suggest that Hedrick was believed to be the One Mighty and Strong: “God revealed to Granville Hedrick that this falling away began when Smith claimed to be the one promised in D.C. 103:15 to redeem Zion. Hedrick was the one appointed to build up Zion and punish her enemies, and in leading the little army against Missouri Joseph usurped this office. In punishment God withdrew His spirit from him, and with the introduction of baptism for the dead, polytheism, and polygamy the church went even deeper into error, ‘until the time should be fulfilled sufficiently for their chastisement’” (Wright 29). It is uncertain whether his followers ever considered him to be the One Mighty and Strong. Modern members of the Church of Christ (Temple Lot) reject this.
